Guardian No. 218 …beautifully transformed…she is ready to fly…

A large spiraled wool bead represents the courageous journey this Guardian took as she retreated from the external world. She emerged transformed, shining her internal light outward, symbolized by a vibrant rhinestone bead. Her funky crown sprouts clusters of long, thin appendages resembling antennae allowing her to stay informed of her community’s concerns.

Her clothing reflects her energy and youthful nature. A bright red heart charm echoes her compassion. The reclaimed sari ribbon wrapping her lower body symbolizes her cocoon of loving friends from around the globe.

Her long legs carry her throughout her day attending to the needs of others. She has acquired her glass slippers with the arrival of her “prince charming”… a final awakening to pursue her long awaited dreams…she is ready to fly!

This Guardian takes flight on a re-purposed bedspring emerging from a hand-painted reclaimed vintage crate board measuring approx. 20″ tall, 7″ wide, and 8” deep. Sewn to the back of her right wing is a tiny bell, representing my mother’s playful spirit. Its gentle sound is a reminder to listen to the whispers of your heart.

Guardians are messengers emerging from the invisible world into the visible world, whispering secrets preserved deep within our hearts where ancient memories are stored and shared by all souls. Each of my figures is inspired by the essence of an individual who has crossed my life path…
