Guardian No. 3215…pollinating the world with a generous spirit…

A long lean figure, as if emerging from the damp fresh dirt of a spring garden, approx. 22″ tall (with stand) and 6 1/2″ wide and 6 1/2″ deep, evokes the stamen and the pistil. A radiating sun face on hand dyed pollen-yellow vintage linen fabric echoes this Guardian’s welcoming spirit reflecting light into any dreary day. Vintage millinery creates her wild hair that gives and receives, generating fruits of the spirit.

I selected a variety of colorful fabrics to represent a joyful garden Guardian. A leaf necklace and bright handmade glass buttons embellish her floral garden body ruffled with rickrack. Her fun loving spirit soars on mismatched, hand-embroidered wings.

Her legs remind me of garden string beans strong and self-sufficient, the recipients of their own pollen wisdom…bee slippers carry her through the garden of life.

This Guardian takes flight on a re-purposed bed spring emerging from a hand-painted wood block base. Sewn to the back of the Guardian’s right wing is a tiny bell, representing my mother’s playful spirit. It’s gentle sound is a reminder to listen to the whispers of your heart.
