Guardian No. 716…whirling through the mysterious tides of life…
The sea is her playground, allowing her wild spirit to flow freely through it’s sacred waters…
Standing approx. 22″ tall (with stand) and 6″wide and 6″ deep. I have chosen cotton fish scale-like fabric for this mermaid Guardian’s body. Vintage linen fabric has been hand dyed the color of the ocean with a uniquely carved fish bead for her face. Felted unspun dyed wool was manipulated into hair to reflect this Guardian’s wild nature. A crown worthy of a “queen of the sea” has been created with hand felted wool roving, beads, pearls, and a vintage bobble…
Her free-spirited personality continues to emerge with intricately-detailed hand stitching on her wings and body, using embroidery and thoughtfully sought out beads….pearls and rhinestones. The beautiful tail that propels her on her travels is created with hand dyed ribbon intertwined with pearls and spiral beads…
This Guardian takes flight into the world on a re-purposed bed spring emerging from a hand-painted wood block base. Sewn to the back of the Guardian’s right wing is a tiny bell, representing my mother’s playful spirit. It’s gentle sound is a reminder to listen to the whispers of your heart.
