Two-stepping on the hilltops under twinkling stars…Guardian No. 717

Inspired by a Cajun sheepherder I lived alongside of in the mountains of Central Montana…The green ears indicate that a male was my inspiration. Uprooted from his birth culture…he is a somewhat mysterious figure.

A crown of deer antler tips wrapped in handspun sheep’s wool symbolizes his kingdom in a “foreign” land, watching over those more vulnerable. A rusty found jug lid signifies the life he deserted, and a single bead with many eyes allows for the vigilant awareness he needs for maintaining his peaceful world.

The chosen fabrics echo the mountain hillsides and the expansive skies that shelter and embrace this Guardian. He wears deer antler buttons and a heart belt buckle reflecting his protective and feisty nature.

This Guardian takes flight into the world on a vintage bedspring emerging from a hand painted wooden block. Measuring approx. 19 ” long, 7″ wide, and 8″ deep. Sewn to the back of the Guardian’s right wing is a tiny bell, representing my mother’s playful spirit. It’s gentle sound is a reminder to listen to the whispers of your heart.
