Guardian No. 2315…singing a love song to mother earth…
She knelt by my side in the garden, weeding and visiting, appearing as natural as a gift from the earth…
This bountiful Guardian figure overflows with a love of nature, standing approx. 19″ tall (with stand) and 6″ wide and 6″ deep. Reflecting her kind spirit and spoken word, a tiny rhinestone shines through a naturally formed shell heart attached to hand dyed springtime green vintage fabric. A head full of rainbow colored tendrils, made by felting and curling unspun dyed wool, reflect this Guardian’s wild nature.
I have chosen a variety of earthy fabrics to reflect her nature loving spirit. Her smock is embellished with African bead buttons, a vintage rickrack collar and a ruffle of glass beads that sway in the summer breeze. Her stick legs stretch her to the sky so that she may fly off to pursue her dreams…spreading joy (strips of sari ribbon) on her life’s journey…
This Guardian takes flight on a re-purposed bed spring emerging from a hand-painted wood block base. Sewn to the back of the Guardian’s right wing is a tiny bell, representing my mother’s playful spirit. It’s gentle sound is a reminder to listen to the whispers of your heart.
